They’ve done it again!

David Gungor and John Arndt

Just when I resolve in myself to try to forget that contemporary Christian art exists, The Brilliance releases a new album. This one just in time to prepare my heart, soul, and mind to enter into one of the most sacred times of the year, Advent.

With Advent Vol 2 David Gungor and John Arndt have marked the word ‘Brilliance’ as more than just a band name but also as a sincere attribute of their work.

They are their own kind of theopoetics. It is necessary to do theology because bad theology hurts people. Likewise bad art hurts people and I have long been concerned that the contemporary Christian body has been injured beyond repair. Music like this paints a brighter picture. From the intentionally crafted lyrics that speak of Christian truth and beauty to the musical composition that can rapture even a cynic like myself into an inexplicable existential experience, Advent Vol 2, like all of the Brilliance’s art, is a model for artists from all genres.
